High School Battle Tie-Breaker Showdown

The 2010 Battle of the Books competitions have come to an end. The high school teams weren't going down without a fight! A three-way tie took us into a question after question after question tie-breaker round. The judges had to create new tie-breaker questions on the spot after we exhausted our list. All of the teams did an awesome job!

This year's winners are:

First Place
The Knights Who Say Ni

Second Place
Bibliophobics

Third Place
Rapid Readers

Thank you to all of the other teams and team managers who worked so hard for this year's Battle:
Pirate Rangers
Moon Monsters
Team Espana
Toxic Cupcakes
Veni Vedi Vici

*Be on the lookout for Battle information next November, as there will be some new requirements for teams and team managers.

7th & 8th Grade Battle Recap

The 7th and 8th graders had 14 teams at last night's Battle of the Books, the most teams this year! We had to hold the Battle in a new venue, the Sewickley Academy cafeteria, because of the large number of participants and spectators!

Every team did a fantastic job and their enthusiasm and cheering made the night fun for me (and hopefully everyone!). I know everyone worked incredibly hard and the competition was fierce, but unfortunately there can only be three prize winners. This year's winners are as follows:

1st Place
Reading Dragons IV

2nd Place
Reading Dragon Slayers

3rd Place
Team B.O.B.

Thank you to all the other teams and team managers who worked so hard to participate in this program:
The Atomic Books
The Cinq Amis
Epic Uberwins
Fab 5
Nerd Herd
Potter's Angels
The Surreal Suckers
Thing One
Thing 2
Typhoon Readers
United Readers

2010's First Battle Comes to an End

A huge thank you to the 13 6th grade teams that participated in last night's Battle of the Books! There were lots of fantastic team names to be heard and creative team shirts to be seen from the following schools:
Cornell Elementary
Ingomar Middle School
Moon Middle School
Quaker Valley Middle School
and Sewickley Academy
Heather and I were excited that the teams were able to answer many of our hardest questions. Because of this we had to hold a tie-breaker round where two teams went question for question until a 3rd place winner could be determined! While every team did a fantastic job, the teams that follow were the 2010 prize winners:

1st Place
Radioactive Readers
2nd Place
Ingomar Middle School
3rd Place
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious Readers

Thank you and congratulations to the other teams who made last night so much fun, we hope to see you all again next year!
